Best GMAT Instructors in South Africa
Highly experienced and qualified GMAT teachers are crucial to GMAT preparation, a fact that too many test prep companies fail to keep in mind. While other test prep firms will make hiring decisions based specifically on an instructor's own test scores—at Manhattan Review, we take into account more than just top tier upper-percentile exam score performance. High-scoring students can often make poor educators, and this is simply because test-taking and teaching test prep demand a different skill set. For this reason, high test scores are only a bare-minimum demand for Manhattan Review's South African GMAT instructors. We also examine academic performance at the undergraduate and graduate levels, diversity of courses taken, experience and business knowledge, teaching CV, and perhaps most critically—a bona fide zeal for GMAT instruction that excites and inspires students to attain their business and academic goals. Selected candidates for GMAT tutor positions are completely trained in Manhattan Review's course syllabi and instructional procedures. This hiring and training practice gives our students in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban, Port Elizabeth, and Pretoria the dependable, informed, and dedicated GMAT instruction that their goals require.
Manhattan Review History
In 1999 Joern Meissner, who was then a lecturer and doctoral student at Columbia Business School, set the early foundations for Manhattan Review in New York City. Professor Meissner's lectures to MBA students at Columbia were characterized by a unique ability to streamline and simplify complicated concepts to their essence. Several of these students asked if this method could be implemented to cultivate better GMAT prep classes than the ineffective and boring content memorization available at the time. Professor Meissner devised authentic GMAT lectures that became immediately popular with soon-to-be business students in Cape Town and around South Africa. Thus, a cutting-age, innovative test prep company was born.
Manhattan Review has since become a global educational services firm that provides prep classes and one-on-one tutoring for the GMAT, GRE, LSAT, SAT, SSAT, ACT, ISEE, TOEFL, and IELTS in Cape Town, Johannesburg, Durban, Port Elizabeth, Pretoria—as well as other major European, North American, Asian and Australian cities. Manhattan Review also offers other important educational services that consist of admissions consulting, application consulting, and credible, effective practice tests.
About our Founder
Joern Meissner is a globally renowned business school professor with a Diploma in Business Management from the University of Hamburg as well as a PhD in Management Science at Columbia Business School in New York City, one of the top Ivy League Schools. Upon finishing his doctoral degree, Meissner selected the career trajectory of an academic and has now over 25 years of experience as a postsecondary educator. His passion for teaching is contagious, and he has taught business classes at the Lancaster University Management School, the University of Hamburg, the Leipzig Graduate School of Management, in addition to the University of Mannheim. Meissner's published research on supply chain management, dynamic pricing, and revenue management has been featured in several well-known and respected academic journals. While Professor Meissner comprehensively relishes his research, he believes that grasping an idea is only half of the fun; conveying knowledge to others is even more rewarding. This philosophy was paramount to the establishment of Manhattan Review, and continues to remain its most valued principle today.
